Turning the moment into a lesson
Once a child is calm - sometimes minutes later, sometimes the next day - that's the real teaching window. Revisit the moment briefly and specifically: what the feeling was, what triggered it, and one thing to try differently next time. Keep it short. A thirty-second conversation, repeated consistently, does more than a single long lecture ever will.
Over weeks, this pattern - presence, naming, waiting, then a short debrief - becomes the child's own internal script. That's the whole goal: not a child who never has big feelings, but one who knows what to do with them.
